Citation monitoring is one of the most valuable things PeakRank does — and one of the easiest to use badly. Pointed well, it tells you exactly where to win. Pointed lazily, it produces a dashboard nobody acts on.
Track the right questions
The biggest lever is the question list. Skip vanity terms. Track buying-intent questions ('best X in [city]', 'who should I hire for Y'), the problem questions your product solves, and comparison or 'alternatives to [competitor]' queries — the highest-intent territory there is. Claude helps generate them, but you prune to the ones that actually precede a sale.
Read share, then close gaps
Don't stop at cited yes/no. Read the pattern: you cited consistently (defend it), competitor cited and you absent (your top gap), nobody cited (open ground). Then close the gaps with pages engineered to be quoted — direct answer up top, question-shaped headings, consistent entities, FAQ and schema. Claude drafts; a human adds the real numbers and verifies, because unedited AI filler loses trust with readers and engines alike.
The brands models cite today become the defaults they reach for tomorrow. Measuring your citation share now — while most competitors aren't even looking — is how you claim that default before it hardens around someone else.
